PEARLAND — If there is one team that Pearland head coach Tony Heath has dominated it has to be the Alvin Yellowjackets. It was no different this past Friday when the Oilers beat the Jackets 35-14.

The game was really never in doubt though Alvin did put up a more improved effort as in past years. Pearland beat the Jackets 48-22 last year and Heath has never lost to Alvin since he took over the helm in 1997.

Jacob Garner scored the game's first touchdown on a 2-yard keeper. Michael Winstead booted the PAT for a 7-0 lead with 8:59 left in the opening period. The scoring drive was 75-yards in nine plays on their first possession of the game.

The Jackets answered to tie up the game when Corey Jackson scored on an 11-yard run with 1:59 left in the first quarter.

With 7:17 left in the second period, Trey Smith hauled in an 11-yard pass from Garner to take the lead for good 14-7.

Pearland's defense forced the Jackets to punt and junior Conner Chidester caught the ball at the Pearland 20, juked a couple of Alvin defenders, and then darted to the Pearland sideline to pick up a wall of blockers resulting in a beautiful 80-yard punt return for a touchdown. Winstead nailed the extra point to give Pearland a 21-7 lead at intermission.

Neither team scored in the third period, but the Oilers added two more scores in the final frame as Jake Crain snagged a 5-yard pass from backup QB Kalen Johnson for a 28-7 advantage.

The Oilers made it 35-7 when sophomore JaColbie Butler scored on a 3-yard run with 3:55 left in the game.

Alvin still kept fighting and scored on a 1-yard pass with :13 seconds left in the contest to make the final score 35-14.

Pearland didn't put up big numbers as they only had 248 total yards while Alvin was limited to 192 total yards.

Garner was 9-of-18 for 75 yards and one touchdown and one interception and also had 78 yards rushing on nine carries and another score. Johnson was 5-of-7 for 66 yards and one score.

Butler had 47 yards on 10 carries and one TD.

Pearland got a new transfer in from New Orleans and Rasheed Davis proved he can contribute immediately as he had three catches for 44 yards. Trey Smith had three catches for 37 yards and one TD. Kevin Washington had three grabs for 28 yards.

The Oilers are now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in district action while Alvin fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in district.

Pearland will host South Houston for Homecoming festivities on Friday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m
