JV Maroon whollops Alvin 56-0
The Pearland Junior Varsity Maroon team closed out their final game
of the regular season in dominating fashion with a 56-0 thrashing
of the Alvin JV Yellowjackets.
The Maroon squad finished with a 6-0-2 season record with two games
being cancelled during the year because of Hurricane Rita. Pearland
had a perfect 4-0 mark in District 24-5A competition.
It didn't take long for the Oilers to find the pay station as Trevor
Aimee scored with only three minutes gone in the opening period. Following
the kickoff to Alvin, Christian Miller recovered an Alvin fumble in
the end zone to give Pearland a 14-0 lead.
The Oilers' defense forced Alvin to punt giving the offense another
opportunity to score again. This time, it was the running by Kris
Fields and Kip Prado that took the ball downfield setting up a one-yard
quarterback sneak by Carlos Lebron-Thacher.
The defense again got on the scoreboard as an alert Nick Saenz picked
off a misguided aerial by the Alvin quarterback and returned the interception
102 yards for a sensational touchdown giving Pearland a commanding
28-0 lead.
Dexter Thomas added another touchdown to make the score 35-0 as the
teams went to the dressing rooms at intermission.
The defense continued their outstanding play as Saena picked off his
second interception of the game setting up a five-yard run by Prado.
The Oilers added to final scores on runs by Fields and Daryl Fitzhugh
to post the final 56-0 score.
The JV Maroon team captured the District 24-5A championship for the
second straight season.
