6 - Oklahoma State Cowboys Football Camp comes to Pearland |
The
Oklahoma State Cowboys football coaching staff will be coming to
Pearland High School on Friday, June 10 for a one-day football camp.
Registration begins on Friday at 4:45 p.m. til 6:00 p.m. at a nominal
cost of only $20 which includes a camp T-shirt. The camp begins
at 6:00 p.m. til 8:30 p.m. at The Rig.
The camp is for incoming Junior and Senior players only and each
player needs to bring shorts and shoes.
The Cowboy Technique School is a great opportunity for high school
players to improve their individual position skills under the leadership
of the successful coaching staff at Oklahoma
State University.
"I hope all of our junior and senior players will take advantage
of this rare opportunity," Pearland head coach Tony Heath said.
"It is not often that high school players have successful college
coaches come to them on their home turf. Mike Gundy and his staff
will be here to give our kids additional instruction that should
prove beneficial as we prepare for the 2005 football season."
Mike Gundy, Oklahoma States all-time leading passer and a
member of the Cowboy coaching staff for 10 of the past 14 years,
has been named the schools 22nd head football coach. OSUs
new head coach was officially introduced on January 3, 2005.
The 37-year-old Gundy was a four-year starter at quarterback for
OSU from 1986-89. He has had two stints as OSUs offensive
coordinator and has also coached Cowboy quarterbacks and receivers.
As a player and coach, Gundy has been part of some of Oklahoma States
most memorable football successes. He was Oklahoma States
quarterback when the Cowboys posted back-to-back 10-win seasons
in 1987 and 1988. He passed for 2,106 yards in 1987 and 2,163 in
1988.
During his four-year Oklahoma State career, Gundy passed for 7,997
yards and 49 touchdowns. He became Oklahoma States starting
quarterback four games into his true freshman season.
After graduation, Gundy remained on the Oklahoma State coaching
staff. He coached the receivers in 1990, the quarterbacks from 1991-1993
and was elevated to offensive coordinator prior to the 1994 season.
Gundy spent one season at Baylor (1996) as quarterbacks coach and
passing game coordinator and spent four seasons at Maryland (1997-2000)
as receivers coach. He returned to Stillwater in 2001 as assistant
head coach and offensive coordinator and has coached OSU quarterbacks.
Gundy was an all-state quarterback at Midwest City High School and
was the Oklahoma Player of the Year in 1986. He and his wife, Kristen,
have three children, Gavin, Gunnar and Gage.
