| Vaughn
named to Texas Football Magazine Super-Team |
The
Pearland Oilers had anopportunity to play in Dave Campbell's Texas
Football Classic in San Antonio at the Alamodome to open the 2004
campaign featuring some of the elite teams in the state that are
invited to participate in the prestigious event. The Oilers returned
home with a thrilling 14-0 victory over the Fort Bend Kempner Cougars.
The 2005 Dave Campbell Texas Football Magazine hit the stands this
week and Pearland's Justan Vaughn was named to the Super-Team defensive
third-team placing him as one of the top players in the state according
to the 46th edition of the publication.
Pearland free safety Quinton Moore (Oklahoma State) was named to
the Super-Team defensive second-team last season and wrote his name
in the record books at the game in San Antonio by returning the
opening kickoff for a touchdown. The 99-yard return set a new mark
at the Texas Football Classic which has featured some of the finest
teams and players in Texas. The former record was set by Fort Worth
Dunbar's Ernest Mason, who returned an 83-yarder for a touchdown
when Dunbar nipped Brownwood 35-32 in 2002.
Vaughn (6-1, 175, 4.4) will return to his defensive back spot for
his senior year and looks to be one of the keys for the Oilers defensive
unit this coming season. Vaughn, who was an All-District 24-5A first-team
pick last year, will probably see some action on the offensive side
of the ball as a wide receiver.
