
Pearland's William "Billy" Boettcher was among 25
high school seniors in the Greater Houston area who are starters
in football with the highest-grade-point averages. They were
honored by the Touchdown Club of Houston on Wednesday, November
8 at the JW Marriott Hotel. The event was sponsored by Bridgeway
Capital Management and Channel 55.
The Touchdown Club of Houston has awarded about $95,000 in scholarships
in the past seven years to more than 125 area scholar-athletes.
The top scholar-athlete will receive a $1,500 scholarship. All
finalists received at least a $500 scholarship. If the finalist
receives a college football scholarship, then the Touchdown
Club money is donated to the player's high school.
Boettcher was recently one of eight chosen in the Houston area
for the Reliant Energy/Houston Texans Scholarship for Champions.
The senior offensive lineman has a grade point average of 4.8
and ranks No. 4 out of 990 PHS seniors. He had a 1450/1600 score
on his SAT.
The winsome Boettcher is President of the National Honor Society,
President of the Science National Honor Society, member of the
Spanish Honor Society, a member of the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, and is a peer volunteer of fellow classmates in math,
biology, and Spanish. He has been recognized by Who's Who in
American High School Students for the past four years.
He is active in leading tutoring sessions for all of his teammates
who need help in their classes following football practice.
He also volunteers at Crosspoint Fellowship church with the
youth, children's ministries and during Sunday morning services.
He volunteered at local VFW Hall during Hurricane Katrina recovery
effort as well as voluteering at Trinity Oaks Retirment Home.
He also is the shift manager at Cold Stone Creamery for the
past two year.
Boettcher is the son of Sheila Whelon and John Boettcher.
