No. 6 state-ranked Pearland shuts out Pasadena Memorial 48-0

    No. 6 state-ranked Pearland improved to 8-0 on the season and 6-0 atop the District 22-6A standings after dismantling the Pasadena Memorial Mavericks 48-0 at Pasadena Veterans Memorial Stadium.
    The Oiler offense had 377 total yards, 48 points, and 261 yards rushing while the Pearland defense held the Mavs to 139 total yards with 35 yards on the ground and 104 yards through the air and three turnovers.
    Pearland led 34-0 at halftime having scored in every possession by the offense while the defense didn’t allow the Mavs even close to their goal line including an interception and a fumble recovery by the Oilers that set up scores.
    It took only four plays for Pearland to score on their possession of the game starting at their own 36.
    Senior RB Ja’Maurey Champion found paydirt on an 11-yard scoring run that was set up by a 40-yard pass from QB Jake Westmoreland to WR Jordan “Jet” Hernandez. Kicker Holden Macneish hit the PAT for a 7-0 lead with 10:00 left in the first quarter.
    After a three-and-out by Memorial, the Oilers set up their next possession on the Mavs 34 after a short punt.
    Champion scored his second touchdown on a 9-yard dash with 7:05 left in the opening period. The PAT missed the mark and the Oilers had a 13-0 lead.
     After Pearland linebacker Joseph Credit intercepted a Memorial pass on their next possession, the Oilers quickly scored on a 6-yard run by sophomore Royce Swan with 1:50 left in the first quarter. Macneish hit the extra point to make it 20-0.
    The Oilers added two more scores to end the first half as Champion scored his third TD of the game on a 2-yard plunge and Swan scored on a 8-yard run with 1:50 left before intermission to make the score 34-0.
    Pearland score a touchdown in the third quarter and one in the fourth period to post the 48-0 final score.
    Swan added one more score to give him the trifecta on an 8-yard run and Jadon Howard scored the last TD on an 11-yard dash with 1:50 remaining in the game.
    Westmoreland completed 4-of-8 passing for 76 yards while junior QB Kaleb Smith hit 5-of-6 passing for 40 yards.
    For the season, Westmoreland is 63-of-94 passing for 1,072 yards and with 11 TDs and a .670 completion percentage and only one INT.
    Champion had 13 carries for 109 yards and three touchdowns. Champion now has 111 carries on the season for 1,045 yards and 18 touchdowns.
    Swan had 10 totes for 81 yards and three scores.
    “Jet” Hernandez had two grabs for 49 yards.
    Pearland will host the Shadow Creek Sharks on Friday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Pearland ISD Stadium. This game could possibly be for the District 22-6A championship. 
    The Oilers are 8-0 overall and 6-0 in district while Shadow Creek is 5-2 overall and 4-1 in league action.
